Why?
Those containers arenât always breathable
Moisture gets trapped and speeds up rot
One moldy berry can spoil the whole batch
To truly preserve freshness, you need to start with a clean slate â and a few simple tricks.
1. Donât Wash Them Immediately
Strawberries are delicate â and moisture is their enemy.
Leave them unwashed until ready to eat.
â
Bonus Tip: Washing before storing encourages mold growth and softness.
2. Remove the Stems (Gently!)
Take off the green tops â but only when youâre ready to prep , not before.
Leaving stems on during storage helps prevent moisture loss and keeps berries firm.
3. Line a Container With Paper Towels
Use an airtight container or glass bowl â and line the bottom with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel .
This absorbs excess moisture and prevents squishing.
4. Layer Berries Gently
Place strawberries in a single layer â no stacking.
If you must stack, place parchment paper between layers to avoid bruising.
5. Cover and Refrigerate
Keep the container loosely covered â not sealed tight.
This allows airflow while keeping berries cool and dry.
